United Rehabilitation Services (URS) Celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Dayton Ohio – In 1987, President Ronald Reagan declared March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month to encourage understanding and acceptance for people with disabilities and recognizes the contributions of individuals with disabilities and encourages the community to embrace working together. This month, United Rehabilitation Services (URS) will participate in a variety of community activities to raise awareness for individuals with disabilities in our community.

March 4th:  Advocacy Day at the Statehouse in Columbus.  A group of URS adult clients will attend this event in addition to doing a live stream in the center for all of the clients.

March 14th:  Harrigan’s 5K Run/Walk at 9:30 a.m.  Race starts at Harrigans Tavern at 4070 Marshall Road in Kettering and winds through the streets of Kettering South of Stroop Road.  Wheelchair/Stroller friendly event!  To register, visit www.harrigans5k.com.

March 18th: 10 am – 11 am:  Art Show/Empowerment Drumming Event – Mayor Nan Whaley and both the City and County Commissioners will participate in an Client Art Show (10 – 10:30), as well as an Intergenerational Drumming Program (10:30 – 11) at URS, 4710 Old Troy Pike.  Photo opportunities for the media with children and adult clients and our elected officials.

March 25th:  10th Annual Jersey Mikes “Day of Giving”- 100% of proceeds from the Jersey Mikes in Beavercreek at 3510 Pentagon, Centerville at 6002 Far Hills Ave., and 1512 Miamisburg Centerville Road, will benefit URS. In 2019, more than $27,000 was raised for URS in one day!
