October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and today we would like to highlight Kalib. Kalib was first referred to Employment Services of URS by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) for Summer Youth Career Exploration services in the Summer of 2016. There he participated in a vocational small group focused on communication, teamwork, professionalism and career exploration.
In 2018, he was accepted into Project SEARCH at Springfield Regional Medical Center (SRMC), in lieu of his last year of high school. Kalib successfully completed rotations within SRMC’s Environmental Services, Biological Medicine and Same Day Surgery departments. By the end of the school year, Kalib began working with a Job Developer from URS. Kalib and his Job Developer created a resume, practiced interviewing skills and in 2019, he was able to obtain a position at Rural King (Springfield, Ohio) as a part-time Assembler. Kalib then received Job Coaching services to help him get acclimated to his new work environment, assist with learning his tasks and working as a member of a team. Kalib still remains successfully employed at Rural King today. Now we’re excited to share, Kalib has come full circle and is currently mentoring our 2021 Summer Youth Work Experience (SYWE) participants at Rural King! Kalib is passing along what he has learned to a new generation of students. URS appreciates being a part of your journey and watching you grow! Great job Kalib!
